The Montgomery Farmers’ Market Returns

Carrots

This Saturday, June 6, as it has for the past twelve years, Montgomery’s downtown will jump with activity. Montgomery’s Farmers’ Market, an outreach of the Montgomery Friends of Open Space (Friends), features locally grown, conventional and certified organic produce, meats, eggs and other farm products. It will be held Saturdays from 9am until 1pm at the Village Shopper shopping center through October 24th.

Founded in 2003 to support agriculture in Montgomery and surrounding areas, the Farmers’ Market has grown from 5 vendors to 18 this year. Back this year are old favorites Treelicious Orchards and Orchard Farm Organics, who have been with us from the very beginning, but we also welcome PickleLicious from Teaneck, NJ, purveyor of house-made kosher pickles, olives, and other products.

Each year the Friends like to support an emerging farmer who is venturing into the farm market business. New for this year will be dried, organic herbs and herb teas from Fields Without Fences of Frenchtown. Next week, come ready for coffee as Benfatto Coffee of Hillsborough joins us as well. Some farmers are experiencing a delayed harvest and will join us in the coming weeks, but while we’re waiting for the sunflowers to bloom and cherries to ripen, there are plenty of delicious, fresh offerings.

Our esteemed Market Sponsors will be on hand regularly. Our Blue Ribbon Sponsor is again Union Line Garage of Hopewell; Market Benefactor, Princeton Design Guild; Market Patron, Terra Momo Restaurant Group; Band Sponsors, Radiation Data, Princeton Orthopaedic Group, Lili B’s and 1st Constitution Bank of Rocky Hill, and individual contributors. If you would like to sponsor the Market, visit the Friends’ website (MontgomeryFriends.org) for a sponsor form or go to the “Eat Local” table at the Market. Funds from sponsors help cover the cost of supplies, labor, special events, and shed maintenance.

Keeping the market running are our tireless volunteers. Working at the market is a rewarding, satisfying and delicious activity. Reach out through our website or stop by the Friends tent on Market Day and find out how you can be a part of it! Once again, the Friends will be sending out a weekly e-newsletter to over 1700 shoppers with specials, vendor information, and coupons. Sign up at www.montgomeryfriends.org.

Welcome to summer!
